Mom's Chili by Emily

½ pound ground hamburger or ground turkey
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
2- 15 oz, cans red beans or kidney beans
1 – 28 oz. can of chopped tomatoes
½ cup ketchup
¼ cup brown sugar (can add more to taste)
1 tsp. red chili powder (add more to taste)
14 tsp. salt
14 tsp. pepper

Brown meat, and then add chopped onions and green peppers.  Cook until softened.  Drain grease and set aside.  Drain and rinse beans.  Put into a pot.  Add meat mixture.  Puree tomatoes in a blender and add to pot.  Add all other ingredients.  Cook on medium heat, constantly stirring until desired temperature. Add water, if you want your chili a little thinner  Turn to low and let simmer until ready to serve.  Caution:  Chili burns very easily.

Optional -  serve with sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, grated cheese and chips.

  1. I use 4 tsp chili powder
    3/4 cup ketchup
    I have been splashing it with red hot sauce.
