Grandma's Caramels - Christine Gibson

1 can sweetened, condensed milk
1 cup
white sugar
1
cup brown sugar
1
cup white Karo syrup
1 cup or 3
/4 lb. butter

Dissol
ve over double boiler, then cook stirring constantly until tests to soft ball or desired consistency.  [We don't use a double boiler, but a heavy pan.] Pour into buttered dish. Cut and wrap in waxed paper.

This is Christine Gibson's caramel recipe. It is her Grandma Spykerman's recipe. She makes it every Christmas and they are wonderful.
Chris doesn't use a double boiler, just stir it all the time.  It cooks faster without the double boiler, but you have to be careful not to burn it.
