1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 tablespoons sour cream
3 cups flour
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl mix the baking soda into the sour cream.This mixture will bubble-up. Add the soda mixture to the egg mixture. Stir in the salt and then the flour. Cover and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on un-greased cookie sheets.
Bake 6 to 8 minutes in a preheated oven. Cool completely on a cooling rack.
Frost with a good thick cream cheese frosting and decorate. You can put a pop cycle stick in the middle and cover with plastic wrap. Tie with a ribbon.
Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe:
8 ounces cream cheese
1/4 cup butter
2 cups confectioner's sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
In a medium bowl, cream together the cream cheese and butter until creamy. Mix in the vanilla, then gradually stir in the confectioners' sugar. Store in the refrigerator after use.
