Homemade Oreo Cookies

My neighbor makes these all the time, and I finally asked for the recipe. SO YUMMY! I have had several versions of these, and I think this recipe is the best.

Cookies:
2 boxes Betty Crocker devil’s food cake mix
1½ c. shortening
4 eggs

Mix thoroughly together. Dough is very thick (it is easier to mix with dough hooks on an electric mixer than by hand). Roll into small balls (about the size of a quarter, or use a tablespoon measuring spoon) Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Cool well, then frost with cream cheese frosting (following) and top with a second cookie.

Cream Cheese Frosting:
8 oz. cream cheese
½ c. butter
3½ c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Lyle took these into work to share, and everyone sent him emails about how good they were and wanted the recipe. I guess they make a good office treat :).
